PRAYAS – A CONCEPT WITH A DIFFERENCE

 

Conclusive feed back earned through the teaching and learning process involving students and colleagues concerned with professional courses like M.B.A.& P.G. Diploma in Management, indicate that a very thin difference exist in learning environment compared to other Post graduate discipline under Human sciences like M.A., Sociology, Economics or social work etc except curriculum. The intention and objective of the professional course is to build up and enrich, the scholar in to a dynamic practical oriented person with a difference. Based on the necessity, efforts seem necessary to evolve a methodology , which enrich and equips the necessary know how to become a most wanted person.

The present scenario is mostly of a class room exercise and at the best summer Placement-an assignment of a month or two, which is hardly enough to strengthen his or her capabilities. He or she comes out with a label of person of just a post graduate –hardly different with any other discipline, with unfortunate result that his most wanted acceptability is gradually coming down.

To improve on the situation an innovative concept, if introduced initially in teaching and learning, will be able to transform to an extent, the attitude, knowledge and skills of the scholars, resulting his performance level.

PRAYAS is the concept capable of converting the scholar into a practical Oriented Professional, who will be most welcome in all the major areas of Management development. The specific objectives will be

  • To make deliberate provision and systematic efforts to break the fragile and monotonous class room teaching into to a vibrant purposeful, practical oriented teaching with the involvement of students.

  • To ensure that the students while in the course and after successfully completing the course, come out as inspired professionals, complete in their skills, knowledge and attitude eagerly wanted in the fields and training institutions, transparent efforts, need to be felt by all concerned.

MECHANISM

 

Prayas will strive to change, the style of teaching from presentation to discussion.

A self generating teaching and learning package will be created instead of an available ready made theoretical & to an extent non relevant to field situations. He will be exposed to all the major areas, & the principal players who will matter to him in his career & in his years of study.

     

  • A well desinged System of result oriented seminars, workshops, permitting scholars to choose there own areas of interest. This process shall be in continuum, managed by the students with needed guidance from the faculty .

     

This shall from core of training & of learning which shall give valuable opportunity to the students to get acquainted with reputed academicians ,senior management exccutives & subject matter specialists There shall be a very transparent of monitoring and evaluation of this activity.

     

  • An effort will be made to create direct work link taking in to consideration with the choice and availability of such areas at Jabalpur and for a period even out side Jabalpur. The services of placement officer and faculty will be utilized for identifying and short listing such institutions and organizations . Remunerative assurance and guaranty of employment will not be sought from these link up establishments. Our expectation is that such long and even short term duration of contact can create possibility of mutual advantage. It shall be different from summer course assignment, which is a chance selection.

     

It has been said by well meaning intellectuals that projects undertaken by the students during summer projects lack positive thrust which can be of advantage either to them or to the organization in any meaningful way .It hardly generates any new knowledge of direction and hence all this labour only fulfills an obligation of curriculum . The proposal to link up the students with the organization can be instrumental in the right choice of project which is live and current and can be supported by the organization for its own benefits.

This package if accepted can be started with the students of semester I, as it will provide full IVth semesters to test and streamline the usefulness and methodology. There is only a system change and perhaps slight change in the curriculum.

The system of examination can also undergo some change , retaining the basic element that scholars are evaluated fully and receive appreciation of merit or otherwise. There shall be no dilution in academic evaluation but appreciable weightage will be given to practical orientation.
