MARBLE ROCKS and DHUANDHAR
Water fall at
BHERAGHAT provids an unforgettable experience. The principal
attraction here are the marble rocks. The motel here overlooks a
delightful gorge that leads upto them. The gorge by itself is a
beautiful sight as it rises 30 meters above the emerald green
water of River Narmada.
In fact the river has cut through the soft white limestone in a
lazy S curve.
The boats with oarsmen row visitors the entire distance of 1.5
K.M. to the Dhuandhar fall at the far end of the gorge. It is a
journey, an unforgetable pleasure & experience to be
undertaken several times during the day, and night, too. With the
change in the quality of light colours of the cliff walls alter
and the effect is beautiful.
There is a variety of acquatic life in the gorge. Crocodiless sun themselves on the ledges in the morning sun, and water snakes too come out to bask. In evenings multitude of water birds feed on the banks. Their whoopings and enthusiatic shrieks form a pleasant background to the lapping of the waters in the mild breeze. The ride in the boat in the silence of the night with gleaming white rocks around is an unforgettable experience.
CHAUSATH YOGNI temple is undoubtedly the most impressive. It is basically a circular low-walled cloister containing 81 images of goddesses. The 64 Yoginis here are attending goddesses of Durg a and the images date back to between the 2nd and 10th centuries. The images are not only interesting from an artistic view-point but it is the antiquated mood of the cloister that is powerful.
MADAN MAHAL- The pleasure palace of 10th Gond King Madan Singh constructed around 1100 A.D. It is perched some what precariously above a massive jagged rock. It is plain, simple structure without ornamentation of many medival Indian fortresses but has a haunting majesty, commanding a panoramic view over rich valley below. To the west of Mahal lies Ganga Sagar & Balsagar while number of temples erected by Gond Kind reminds us of the past. Nearby is Deotal where exists a natural sulpher springs having medicinal properties. Ranital was built by Rani Durgavati, Cherital built by Rani's maid servant and Adharal built by the ministers of Rani reminds us of the past.
AQUADUCT-CUM-BRIDGE state-of-the Art marvel of engineering on River Narmada at Tilwaraghat - Where the famous congress session of 1939 was held with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as President is unique in this part of the world. Other places of interest are High court of Madhya Pradesh, with its majestic building and well kept lawns and the Central Jail with the cell where Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose spent part of his jail sentence.
PISANHARI KI MADIYA- Symbolic of dedication and service of a poor woman who initiated this unique and impresive cloister of Jain Temples on this hill near Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College.
